PROTOTYPE NAVY & TEAL TARTAN BAG is an original ArtiFacture Cut & Sewn piece created as part of the Prototype Archive.
Built from navy and teal tartan polyviscose with a grey cotton lining, genuine leather branding, metal hardware and reinforced internal construction, this tote bag combines a darker tartan palette with practical everyday storage.
The main compartment is secured with a full-width top zip closure, while a separate internal zipped pocket provides additional enclosed storage for smaller essentials.
With an internal capacity of approximately 12 litres, long shoulder handles and a structured reinforced body, it is designed as a practical everyday carry piece with secure storage and a clean, functional shape.
Design
The PROTOTYPE NAVY & TEAL TARTAN BAG is built around a tall tote silhouette with a navy and teal tartan pattern running across the complete exterior.
The body is made from polyviscose tartan fabric, while the handles use the same outer material to keep the construction visually consistent.
A genuine leather ArtiFacture patch is positioned on the exterior and secured with metal rivets.
The darker navy and teal colourway gives the bag a more understated appearance while retaining the strong woven tartan identity of the Cut & Sewn range.

Built for everyday use
PROTOTYPE NAVY & TEAL TARTAN BAG was designed as a practical everyday tote with secure storage and a reinforced construction.
Its approximately 12 litre internal capacity provides useful space for the items carried throughout the day, while the 31 cm handle drop allows the bag to sit comfortably over the shoulder.
The format works naturally for university, college, commuting, shopping, library trips, work essentials and everyday errands.
The full-width top zip allows the main compartment to be securely closed across almost the entire opening.
A separate internal zipped pocket provides additional storage for smaller items that need to remain organised and easy to access.
The structured base and internal reinforcement help the bag retain its shape during regular use without making the construction unnecessarily rigid.
Construction
The complete bag is designed, cut and sewn in-house by ArtiFacture in the UK.
The outer body is constructed from polyviscose tartan.
Internally, the main body is reinforced using a combination of Fusible Interfacing and Decovil Light I.
This layered reinforcement provides structure, stability and shape while allowing the bag to remain flexible enough for comfortable everyday use.
The handles are made from the same polyviscose tartan fabric and reinforced internally with Fusible Interfacing.
A grey cotton lining finishes the interior and separates the reinforcement structure from the main compartment.
The genuine leather ArtiFacture patch is secured to the exterior with metal rivets.
The result is a structured textile tote with a defined shape, secure closure and practical internal storage.
Main compartment
The main compartment provides approximately 12 litres of internal capacity.
The top opening measures approximately 38 cm and is secured with a zip running across almost the entire width of the bag.
This full-width closure allows the main compartment to be enclosed more completely during everyday use.
The grey cotton lining creates a clean internal finish and separates the contents of the bag from the reinforcement layers positioned between the outer fabric and lining.
Internal zipped pocket
Inside the bag is a separate zipped pocket measuring approximately:
26 cm wide x 21 cm high
The larger internal pocket provides dedicated storage for smaller personal items while keeping them separated from the main compartment.
It is suitable for items such as keys, cards, earphones, small accessories, documents or other everyday essentials that benefit from a separate enclosed space.
The pocket is secured with its own zip and can be closed independently from the main compartment.
Closure
The PROTOTYPE NAVY & TEAL TARTAN BAG uses a full-width top zip closure.
The zip opening measures approximately 38 cm and runs across almost the entire upper section of the bag.
The zip combines polyester tape with metal components.
This construction provides a more complete closure across the top of the bag while maintaining straightforward access to the main compartment.
A second zip is used for the internal pocket, creating an additional enclosed storage area inside the bag.

This piece was produced during the development of the Cut & Sewn range and represents another stage of the tote bag development process.
The construction combines Fusible Interfacing with Decovil Light I to provide additional body and stability.
The design includes a full-width zipped main compartment and a large separate internal zipped pocket.
Future production versions may use revised construction details, dimensions, internal layouts or hardware as the Cut & Sewn range continues to develop.
This is a genuine one of one prototype.

This piece was produced individually rather than through external mass manufacturing.
The outer panels, grey cotton lining, reinforcement layers, handles, internal zipped pocket, leather branding and hardware were assembled as part of the ArtiFacture Cut & Sewn development process.
Small variations in textile alignment and construction are a natural part of individually produced sewn goods.
