PROTOTYPE RED TARTAN BAG is an original ArtiFacture Cut & Sewn piece created as part of the Prototype Archive.
Built from red tartan polyviscose with a cotton lining, genuine leather branding and reinforced construction, this tote bag combines a traditional tartan surface with a practical everyday format.
With an approx. 15 litre capacity, long shoulder handles and a structured base, it is designed for everyday carrying without feeling oversized.
Design
The PROTOTYPE RED TARTAN BAG is built around a clean tote silhouette with a strong red tartan pattern running across the complete exterior.
The body uses polyviscose tartan fabric, while the handles are made from the same outer material to keep the construction visually consistent.
A genuine leather ArtiFacture patch is positioned on the exterior, adding a natural material contrast against the woven tartan.
Metal rivets reinforce the handle attachment points and add a subtle hardware detail to the construction.

Built for everyday use
PROTOTYPE RED TARTAN BAG was designed as a practical everyday carry piece.
Its approx. 15 litre internal capacity provides room for the items you regularly take with you throughout the day, while the 31 cm handle drop allows the bag to sit comfortably over the shoulder.
The format works naturally for university, college, commuting, casual shopping, library trips, work essentials and everyday errands.
The structured base helps the bag retain its shape, while the reinforced body gives the fabric additional stability during regular use.
It is large enough to be useful without becoming unnecessarily bulky.
Construction
The complete bag is cut and sewn in-house by ArtiFacture in the UK.
The outer body is constructed from polyviscose tartan and reinforced internally with a double layer of fusible interfacing.
The handles use the same polyviscose tartan fabric and are reinforced internally with a single layer of interfacing to improve structure and stability.
A cotton lining finishes the interior and separates the internal construction from the main compartment.
Metal rivets reinforce the handle attachment areas.
The result is a textile tote bag with added internal structure, allowing it to retain a defined shape while remaining comfortable for everyday carrying.
Internal storage
The main compartment provides approximately 15 litres of capacity.
Inside the bag are two slip pockets positioned side by side and divided by a central seam.
Each internal pocket measures approximately 10 x 14 cm.
These smaller compartments provide a convenient place for items such as keys, cards, earphones, a phone or other everyday essentials that you may want to keep separate from the main compartment.
Closure
The bag uses a concealed magnetic fastening positioned within the upper section.
This keeps the exterior visually clean while allowing the main compartment to be opened and closed quickly.
As this piece is an early prototype, the magnetic hold is lighter than intended for the final production design.
The closure remains functional and closes correctly, but the magnet is not as strong as the fastening planned for future production versions.

Because this is the prototype version, this exact piece will not be reproduced.
Future Red Tartan Bag versions may use revised construction details, different closures or other refinements developed from the prototype process.
